I love getting up early and so do most hunters. If they don’t, I wouldn’t plan on wild game for dinner. That goes for fishermen too. Fishing in Canada for my husband this past July, required a launch time of 4:45am! Try waking two boys at 4:15 am…they are not very helpful at that hour. But, the early bird gets his worm and his fish!
Sometimes it’s nice to have a treat with your coffee. Jump starts your brain if your feeling foggy.
Cinnamon Scones are perfect for that early morning hunt. The smell is almost like a requirement for fall. There is nothing that smells as good as cinnamon somethingorother (new word) baking in the oven. Can you smell it now? Just reading about it makes you hungry doesn’t it?A good picture helps too.
This recipe is super easy! They only take about 12 min to bake and about 8 min. to toss together. The frosting is what makes these scones stand out. I hope you enjoy them before your next hunting outing! I wonder if bears like cinnamon too?

Cinnamon and White Chocolate Scones
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 T baking powder
2 T white sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
5 T firm butter (I put mine in the freezer for 10 before I start anything during the summer)
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup white chocolate chunks
Mix the dry ingredients together and form a well in the center of the bowl. Using a cheese grater, grate the butter into the flour mix. Toss with the flour to distribute evenly.
Make another well in the center and add the buttermilk and stir until dough begins to come together (Dough will be craggy, with flour still not mixed in). Dump the bowl out on to the counter and knead 3 or 4 times. Do not over mix! Press pieces of chocolate into the dough and shape into a rectangle. Cut dough in half with a pastry scraper and divide each section in halves again. You should have 4 squares of dough. Cut those 4 squares into triangles and place on parchment lined baking sheet. bake at 425 for 12 mins or until edges are lightly brown. Let scones sit for minute before frosting.
2 T soft butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup of powdered sugar
1/4 cup of buttermilk
Mix butter with a spoon in a small bowl. Add some of the sugar, salt and vanilla and mix until the butter is completely mixed in. Add the buttermilk the rest of the sugar and stir until frosting is smooth. Add more buttermilk for thin frosting or more sugar for thick frosting. Spread on hot scones.
